Commentators and American's rail at how polarized the two parties are in congress, and how they can't get anything done.
However, I believe it is not Congress' fault, but rather the American peoples fault, who refuse to allow their elected officials to cut even the most minuscule amounts from their free stuff/entitlements, for example, the home mortgage deduction, 99 weeks of unemployment benefits, business subsidies, S.S. disability benefits, military spending, even Saturday delivery of the mail, let alone Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid.
Politicians know that they will be voted out, or never voted in, if they touch any of our entitlements, so who can blame them for giving the angry, selfish children what they want.
The difference now is that we are broke, the Fed had to buy over 60% of our $1.5 trillion deficit last year, and if we were to confiscate 100% of the top 1%'s wealth, we would only pay the deficit for two years.
So you can see that we are on a runaway train that is headed for the cliff, and the passengers refuse to let the conductor put on the brakes. Congress is now fighting over the scraps, instead of doing the right thing.
We send our senators to Washington to bring home the bacon for our state. Can you imagine telling your senator to go to Washington and bring home less?
The system is set up for failure, so don't blame Congress, blame ourselves.
Obama can't tell you the truth, nor can Romney. Bowles-Simpson came the closest, but both party's rejected it, for they didn't want to be the Congress who took the sugar bowl.
If our government meaningfully cut spending, we go into a depression, or meaningfully raised taxes, we go into a depression.
Poor Americans can't see that we have entitled ourselves to death.
Just relax and enjoy the rest of the ride.
